Use Your Words (orig. published 9.17.08)
(A quick little update)
Our boy has learned to communicate! Just like that. Yes, just like that.
In the past three weeks or so, Colson has decided that he would now like to focus on those things his Mommy and Daddy call “words”.
Colson say Mama – “Mama”
Colson say Dada – “Dada”
Colson say Hi – “Hi”
Colson say Bye – “Bye”
Colson who am I? “Mama”
Colson where are we going? “Nana”
Grampa is “Papa”
Gramma is “Nama”
What does a kitty say? “Bahhhhhh” (imagine him saying this in the quietest most gentle voice he can)
What does a lion say? “Rahhhhhhh” (imagine him saying this in the deepest voice he can)
Colson say kitty – “Kitty”
Do you some more food? – Shakes his head no
Do you want some juice? – Shakes his head yes
If you sneeze he goes “Choo!” and scrunches his face all up to look like, well, to look like what we must look like when we sneeze
Oh. And Raffi could go back to the wilds for all Colson cares. Goldwyn, his surgery dog number three, the golden retriever has rudely stolen the spotlight from sweet Raffi.
Raffi only gets a goodnight kiss as an afterthought.
Goldwyn gets the pleasure of having Colson wrap his little body around him and swat him the face when he falls asleep, and then again when he wakes up in the morning.
Poor Raffi. Perhaps the sun will shine for him again someday soon. He still stands stoically next to Colson every night and watches over the nest as he sleeps.
Oh. Speaking of swatting.
Did I mention that Colson can wave?
Yes. Colson can wave.
He astounds us every day with something new.
A year ago we were impressed because he lifted his finger. Now he’s gone and started waving at people.
I wonder what next year’s update will be?
Surgery update: Colson’s legs are healing wonderfully. He’s a pro at picking them up (he is still in heavy casts) and kicking you in the head during diaper changes. And doing so is hilarious to him.
One leg fell off a couple weeks ago, and I had imagined a horrific sight would be bestowed upon my eyes, but much to my chagrin there was nothing but clean little stitches. So, Nick re-wrapped up Colson’s little leg and we took him back for a new cast later that week.
Colson’s casts will be removed on Tuesday, September 23rd. He will then be fitted for full leg braces, and then we will begin therapy for walking. I can’t wait to put pants on his little legs again. Maybe now he can finally wear blue jeans. Won’t that be just oh so cute.
Braces, Blue jeans, Words and Walking, Look out World, here we come!
Much love,
The Tabbert Family
