Another Year of Firsts

Another Year of Firsts (orig. published 5.28.09)

Well, it’s been another year of firsts. My sweet little guy turned 2 years old on May 21st and as always, he amazes us every single day. Here’s a recap of some of the “firsts” of his 2nd year. We have been a busy family!

First time going 4-wheeling

First time gardening

First time sitting through and enjoying an entire full length movie

First AMC convention!

First time meeting other children with AMC just like him!

Colson can now recognize (visually recognize, as when he sees letters on paper, etc) and say ALL the letters of the alphabet which I’ve been told should not start until he’s at least 3, and by 4 to 5, they should recognize approx. 10 letters (visually, as when shown on paper, etc.). So we are VERY proud of him. He also can read letters upside down. Quite the skill! He can count to 14, and is beginning to count actual objects (3 ducks for instance).

He prefers to sleep in in the mornings, just like his Daddy, and has actually told me to “Mama, git git git” one day when I went to get him up. He has developed even more of his personality, and he is creative, intelligent, observant, curious, stubborn, hilarious, and sensitive. He loves swinging high in the swing, and going fast on the 4-wheeler. I’m positive he will enjoy roller coasters one day which will thrill his Daddy as well. He seems to believe he’s a vegetarian, but Mommy and Daddy keep pushing him to try new things. However, he would eat mac n cheese (Mah-cheese) or oatmeal with fruit and a side of yogurt all day if we let him. He prefers milk to juice or water, and calls it by the Colson version of “meeilllk”. He believes he’s growing up on the East Coast and has a very distinct accent.

He enjoys the sunshine (shuh-shine), fish (shishes), Spiderman (man-man), Handy-Manny (Manny), Caterpillars (Paa-pillers), frogs (hop-hops), his kitty's (cat) and his dog Bud. He especially likes to notify Mommy of Bud's whereabouts, as well as the activities of the cat's. He loves stacking blocks and other intricate things (balancing balls on things, lining things up in a perfectly straight line etc.) And he also enjoys asking “what’s that?” to anything out of the ordinary, sounds, sights, etc.

He has learned to roll finally to get around to where he needs to be, and boy can he move! He will either scoot on one shoulder or he will roll to get somewhere. He is now able to come over to us when we tell him to. Or when he requests to snug, and I tell him he has to come over by Mommy if he wants to snug, he now says “otay” and is able to come by me without me having to go pick him up! We are moving his bedroom downstairs so he can access it, and he loves going in and out of his new room and shutting and opening the doors. He talks about his new room all the time and is very excited to move in.

He had many new firsts and seconds this year, I can’t even keep track of them. Whether it’s a new word, or a new skill he makes us proud and makes us laugh every day. We are headed to Lexington in 2 weeks to see his hand doctor at Shriner’s again. I will update you all on that in a few weeks.

In the meantime – Happy 2nd Birthday to my sweet baby boy! We love you!
