Almost Home

Almost Home (orig. published 4.17.11)

Less than 24 hours until we are HOME!

Well. Pending Dr. VB says so. Which he should. I mean, Colson was actually happy today. Can you believe it? Happy. We even saw a smile. He even talked in a normal voice to the nurses for the most part. That should prove right there that he's well enough to go home.

The swelling has gone down a little on his legs. The amount of medication he is taking has drastically decreased. He's on Tylenol with Codine only when he appears to be in pain. Not every four hours. Not four different drugs. Just the one. Ad lib. Amazing.

We had a really great day today. Nothing too exciting, just hanging out. Visiting the 6th floor from time to time for some video games. We finally had normal conversations, still some dictating from Colson (you go to bed now Mommy!), but a definite marked improvement.

The elusive smile

Dr. VB will come around in the morning, and as soon as he gives us the all clear, we are out of here! We're going to get to the airport as soon as possible so as to allow enough time to get Colson through security, get his special car seat set up on the plane, get his wheelchair checked. Transport him (he weighs a ton now with these casts). Pray for a smooth security check. He'll set off the alarms for sure now, and I read on the tsa website that if the child cannot stand, they will be subjected to an actual pat down, not just the wand scan. Awesome. Let's subject my 3 year old to a tsa pat down. I'm sure it'll feel really great on him when they pat his massive bruises on his thighs. Let's hope for the best though, hopefully it will all go smoothly.

We should get home to my sunshine girl around 6 tomorrow night and I couldn't be more excited. It's the same feeling I would have as a child on Christmas Eve. I just know tomorrow is going to be amazing. It's going to be so wonderful to be home in our own beds (I can start to work on healing this bar shaped bruise on my hips from the fold up cot). We will all be together again. And Colson will be one more day closer to having his casts off.

Much love.
