A Tiny Easter

A Tiny Easter (orig. published 4.28.11)

"How many more days now Mommy" Colson asked me tonight. "How many more days until these casts come off?"

"Four weeks Colson, can you believe it! We are already down to four weeks!!" trying to sound excited so perhaps he will share in my enthusiasm and be convinced that four weeks really, after all, isn't that long at all.

"That's too long Mommy" he says.

Bummer. Shoulda known better than to try to trick my smart guy.

I explained to him that four weeks wasn't that long in the scheme of things, but then again, I'm not the one sitting immobile on the couch with heavy itchy casts on either. To a three year old, I'm certain four more weeks is practically a lifetime.

We've managed to keep ourselves busy this past week, getting back into the swing of things. The semester's almost over so I apologize in advance for the slightly longer breaks in the blog postings as I try to finish up my classes. Speaking of school - we are hoping Colson can go back next week! Just to be there at least. I know he can't participate 100%  right now, and we wouldn't want his teachers trying to move him either. However, for him to be able to be there by his friends I think would really cheer him up, and he has the most amazing team of teachers and I know they will do things to adapt for him so he can still participate to his fullest extent at the moment.

We did get out of the house a few times last week, one time we went and visited Nana for the evening and had a really great time. Nana works at a doctor office and had a brilliant idea! She started collecting bandage wrap tubes because they were the perfect size and weight for Colson to pick up and play with. He's a tiny architect and he loves building things, these were just wonderful for him! Thanks Nana!

Building with Nana

Cayleigh would shiver and say "Cold, brrrr" after every bite of ice cream!

Colson received a care package all the way from Alaska! Thank you Auntie Karen and family! We love you all! It sure did brighten Colson's day, he got a great new t-shirt, a giant bug sticker and some jelly beans!

We also finally got out of the house one day and walked to the school playground. Colson was sad because he couldn't go down the slide or fit in the swing with Cayleigh, but he never ceases to amaze me and he instead spent the time looking out for Cayleigh as she played. He warned her not to run too fast on the bouncy bridge, he watched her go up the steps to the slide and told her when it was ok to go down. He sure does love his tiny sister!

Bouncing on the bridge

Everytime another kid would walk past her, she said "Excuse you!" - hahah!

We had a great Easter also! The tiny's received way too much candy from the Easter Bunny, and had a wonderful day of being sugared up and crazy.

Thanks for the Easter candy Bumpa!

Mouths full of candy!

My 3 year old mathmatician - Colson and Papa playing with a new calculator, he loves numbers!

And sometimes Colson does normal big brother things like poke his sister with a stick - hah!

Throwing rocks in the water!

Papa, Cayleigh and Colson - out for an Easter walk

Gramma has been coming to our house now when Daddy leaves for work because Colson doesn't transport very well. Thank you Gramma! We took a walk to the park by our house and Cayleigh went on a merry go round for the first time and she loved it. She held on tight and just smiled and smiled and smiled the whole time. Colson would remind me to spin her faster when she started to slow down, such a great big brother!

Loving the Merry-go-Round!

What a fun week we had! Cayleigh just said her first three word "sentence" tonight too - her and I always turn off her bedroom light at bed time, but lately she's been grabbing her baby doll and making the babydoll turn the light off instead. So tonight, I said "good job baby!" and Cayleigh said "good job baby!" - Hah! Good job Cayleigh too!

Write again soon, I promise -

Much love
